End Of Year Wind Up

Hi All,

We have had our last show for the year, UBC Championship.

It was a small affair with only 53 birds being benched on the day. Thank you to all who entered birds and thank you to Alan for judging.

Congratulations to Dale who got Champion Bird of the day. Well Done!

Important!

Our AGM is on the 2nd of December and you need to have paid your membership fees by  November 25th in order to vote. Please ensure your name is included as a reference if paying by bank deposit. This will help Keith immensely.

Nominations:

I have attached some forms for your perusal, “Nomination Form” a “Proxy Voting” form and a parking area overlay.

The “Nomination” form is used if you wish to nominate someone for a position within the club. Ideally the nominee would know about the nomination and agree with it. You may also nominate yourself if you would like to take up one of the many roles within the club. Remember “No Experience Required, On The Job Training Provided” 😊 and all positions are available.

Proxy Voting:

If you will be absent from the AGM and still wish to have some input in the voting, you will need to have a filled out and signed “Proxy Vote Authorisation” form into me no later than the 25th November. The form must be filled out and signed by the absentee not the proxy. The form must be returned to me (president) prior the date above. Forms handed in on the day will not be accepted.

Silent Auction:

You are all invited put birds into the “Silent Auction”, Novices and intermediate breeders are included as well as the open breeders. There will be a maximum limit of 10 lots per membership. You can have 2 or more birds in 1 cage but they will be sold as 1 lot. All transactions are “CASH”. We do not have EFTPOS facilities so make sure you pick up your cash before coming. There is a ATM over the road from the club house I believe.

Christmas Party:

Our end of year windup is a catered event and members eat and drink (no alcohol) for free, non members are welcome but will need to pay $5.00 per head for lunch and a drink. The Vinci Sheild and Jim Clarke Challenge awards will be presented on the day. It should be a fun day and our last chance to catch up with you all before Christmas. Remember to stock up on your seeds and accessories as we will not be meeting again until the end February 2024.

Parking:

The city is holding “Rockin On The Green” the night of our AGM and they will be spending the day setting up for the event, hence our regular parking area will be closed to us on the day. There is still parking at the rear of the Council buildings plus further down James Street and on Wilson Street.

They do apologise for any inconvenience.

I think I have covered everything I needed too. If you are unsure or have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch with myself or one of our committee members.

Look forward to seeing you all there.

Kind Regards

2023 The Year Ahead

Here we are back at into the new year.

Yours truly is back at the helm again for another year. Last year went pretty smoothly I think.

We also welcome some new members to the club and the hobby.

I have uploaded the 2023 show schedule for your perusal. You can use the events to add them into your google or iphone calendars.

ANBC Nationals are being held in Ballarat this year. Check out ANBC or BCV’s websites for more information.

The first cab out of the ranks for this year is the State Show & Derby. This event is run by WABC and hosted by Metropolitan Budgerigar Club this year.

March will see the clubs championship show taking place so be sure to mark this one in your calendar.

Thats it for now,

til next time

Happy Birding

Annual Auction 2022

Another very successful day over and done with for another year.

We had 95 lots offered for auction and 29 registered bidders. There was plenty of varieties to choose from. This was a great opportunity to obtain some very nice birds.

The records of the day was for a Sky Blue maiden hen selling for $600. The average price being around $130 per bird. I believe this was a very reasonable price for the quality of birds on offer.

The canteen had fresh sandwiches, hamburgers made to order, cakes and chocolates. And of course the usual tea, coffee and soft drinks.

Thank you everyone who helped make the day the great success it was.

Til next time

Happy Birding

Young Bird Show

So what a great success our “Young Bird Show” was! We had 143 young birds benched and all of good quality which made the judges work a little harder.

Congratulations Norm Wheatley on take Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show. Congratulations to all the other winners and thank you to all those who entered birds. Many thanks to the 2 judges , Mick and Norm who travelled quite a distance to attend the event. Also a big thank you to all those involved in making the day happen, we had a really good result for not a lot of preparing time.

We had our trainee judges team following the 2 judges around for the day, I hope you all learned plenty.

If you missed this event, you missed out! Don’t despair next month is the MBC Annual Auction. This is always a great day with all the fun of a live auction. You can register your interest with club and receive a catalogue when they are made available.

Til then, happy birding

MBC Championship Show

Congratulations Norm Wheatley, winning Champion Bird Overall at the MBC Championship Show. Further congratulations to all the other winners in all the other classes, Well Done! There were new and familiar faces and unfortunately some that couldn’t make it. It was a great day all in all.

We had a solid turnout of birds with a total of 205 being benched. At least it was worth while for the judges who had the work cut out for them.

It was mentioned at the show that we will look at holding a Young Bird Show in May in place of the national selections. There is a bit of nutting out to do but we will keep you posted.

I thought Keith did a nice job with the trophy and rosette selection for his first time as trophy officer. The trophies were quite stylish. Keith has been doing some work on the club store room and when it is all finished there will be organization and space.

Remember, all help is appreciated when you can!

The next show is a Graded Table Show on March 27th so I hope to see you there.

Til Then, happy birding

AGM & Christmas Windup 2020

We this event has been and gone but what a fun day we all had.

The annual AGM went quite smoothly with the new committee being voted in. After the AGM the winners of the Vinci Shield and the Jim Clark Challenge were announced and prizes awarded.

Then the viewing for the auction begun while Sharron served up a storm. The silent/written auction is quite different as you just bid at your leisure by writing a figure on the exhibit pad, go back in little while, see if you need to up your bid and so on. John, Steven and Brooke did a great job of running the auction.

While the waiting for closing time on the auction, people were able to mingle, eat and generally socialize and catch up.

All in all it was a very pleasant day.

End of Year Windup 2020

With all the events of 2020 this event has come around quick.

Hi All,

Don’t forget this Saturday, 5th December is the clubs end of year windup, trophy presentation, written auction and of the AGM.

Ensure your membership is paid up or you will have to pay for lunch, won’t be able to put birds in the auction  nor will you be able to vote at the AGM. You will be able to pay your membership on the day.

If you are putting birds in the auction then you will need to be there early.

All committee positions will become available at the AGM. We definitely need to have the secretary position filled as Brooke will be stepping down.

Want to get involved with the club at a higher level speak up on the day or express your interest to anyone on the committee. You don’t need to have previous experience as the club give you all the support and help you need.

We have a great club, so lets keep it that way.

See you all on the day.

Annual Auction 2020

Uncertain if we would even have our annual auction this year, we managed to pull it off on Saturday 25th July. If not for the great effort the committee put in getting things organised. Once it was decided we would go ahead, Steven got the invites to the vendors out, correlated the catalogue and Christine got the catalogue out to every one. On the day members arrived nice and early got everything setup, Vendors booked in their birds and the auction began at 11:00 am sharp. Alan did a great job at running the auction (he is made for this stuff). We got through the first 40 odd birds, had a short break for lunch and coffee and then back into it to finish the last 25 – 30 birds. We had a total of 70 birds, all of good quality and some really good ones. Prices where fair and reasonable and I think everyone, both sellers and buyers alike were happy with the result.

There was fresh hot dogs and sandwiches on the menu along with hot tea and coffee. Water , soft drinks and chocolates were also available from the kitchen.

Accessories was very busy as well, Alan and Keith were kept on their toes before and after the auction.

2020 Annual Auction a great success and thank you to all those who participated and helped. We could not have done it without you.

Did you miss out on the fun? All things being equal we should be holding the 2021 auction in June next year. In the meantime it is business as usual, club meeting schedule is now back on track so we shall see you at the August table show. The specials for August are Normal Blue, Dilute, Cinnamonwing, Fallow, Hen, Dark Eyed Clear.

Til then, happy birding

Covid-19

Well these are trying times we are in at the moment. Businesses, clubs and other entities are all struggling to keep up with the rapidly changing circumstances we are all facing on a daily basis.

Metropolitan Budgerigar Club will be closed for shows and meetings until the end of May 2020. A lot of our members are in higher risk category and we want to do our bit to keep our members and visitors safe.

The club will keep the supply of all the essentials open though. Seed, tritcale, wheat , millet and supplements will still be available. Simply email us from the contact page to find out how to get your supplies.

We will try and keep you updated as things come to hand and in the mean time try to stay well.

Regards

Vic
